Cygnet Bay Pearls - Harvest Lunch
If you're driving north on holidays between August 30 and September 20, Cygnet Bay Pearls are celebrating their annual Pearl Harvest with a pearl meat Degustation Menu.
Pearl meat forms the centrepiece of the 8 course Degustation menu and is a delicacy only offered by a few restaurants. Pearl meat is ideally served fresh from the shell and guests have an extraordinary opportunity to experience this delicacy at its freshest, harvested just 40m from Cygnet Bay's kitchen at the only restaurant in Australia with access to pearl meat straight from the sea.
We are proud to have two of our wines - our Riesling and Pinot Grigio which will be served to enjoy with the Degustation menu.
Please phone 08 9192 4283 for enquiries and reservations.

It's Gavin Berry's 25th Vintage!
"After moving to the Great Southern in the late '80's for what was expected to be perhaps a two year stint, I am now in the midst of my 25th vintage! All because I haven't found anywhere else that delivers what the Great Southern can; an ideal region for viticulture and winemaking, producing a wide range of varieties and wine styles (especially Riesling, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc). It is a region that offers a great lifestyle as well!" Gavin Berry
Please join with everyone at West Cape Howe in congratulating Gavin on his wonderful achievement!

WEST CAPE HOWE SCOOPS JAMES HALLIDAY'S TOP 100!
The James Halliday Top 100 Wines list came out over the weekend, and West Cape Howe received some very good results, in fact we are over the moon!
West Cape Howe are the only WA producer with four wines included, (our top scorer being the ‘Two Steps’ Shiraz 2011 with 97 Points) and one of only two Australian producers to have four wines listed.
2011 West Cape Howe 'Two Steps' Shiraz - Mt Barker/Frankland : 97 Points
'The complex bouquet and palate have a sinuous interplay of spice, pepper, French oak, ripe tannins and - above all else - juicy black fruits, with a slightly savoury farewell to add the final touch."
2013 West Cape Howe Riesling - Mt Barker : 95 Points
'...tightly wound and zesty, with a pure play of lime and unsweetened lemon juice girdled by crisp, crunchy acidity."
2013 West Cape Howe Sauvignon Blanc - Mt Barker : 94 Points
'...a near perfect example of the huge gulf between the high-tones Marlborough sauvignon blanc style and the more elegant, tightly focused Western Australia expression; here citrus, gooseberry, herb and mineral drive an intense and long palate...'
2011 West Cape Howe Cabernet Merlot - Great Southern : 93 Points
'...12 months maturation in used French oak has resulted in the best possible outcome for this juicy, supple, joyously red berry-fruited wine; terrific value for drinking...'

Ray Jordan gives West Cape Howe trio his 'Seal of Approval'
2010 WCH Tempranillo "Excellent" Ray Jordan
2010 West Cape Howe Tempranillo Ray Jordan highlighted this wine in his Top 100 Australian Reds in The West Australian on 5th July 2012. Ray said, "...clearly one of the best temps released in this State. Shows the supple fleshiness of the variety when in Australian hands while losing none of those varietal dry savoury earthy tones...Excellent."
Also included was the 2010 Mount Trio Cabernet Merlot, made by West Cape Howe. Ray wrote, "Balanced and precise on the palate with a generosity of flavour. All-round well-made wine for this price."
The third wine chosen in Ray's Top 100 is the 2010 West Cape Howe 'Two Steps' Shiraz. He wrote, "This is as good as any wine these guys have released. Such elegance and poise coupled with so much intensity and fruit concentration all presented with a smooth, seamless and almost velvety palate feel. Fine tannins and fine-grained oak pull the whole thing together. A beauty."
We're very proud of these great accolades for our wines. You'll find them listed under 'Our Wines' section and available for purchase now. Be guided by the experts!

Vinexpo was held in Hong Kong at the end of May and attracted more than 15,000 trade from across Asia, with over 1000 exhibitors from around the world. West Cape Howe was amongst five Great Southern participating wineries.
Gavin took groups of wine trade buyers through Great Southern wines Masterclasses and was excited with the networking and trade contact opportunities.
With huge market potential in China and Asia, Gavin took this opportunity to educate participants and elevate the Great Southern as a world-class region for the production of premium wine.
Following the trade show, Gavin joined the delegation in Seoul, South Korea for a tasting event with other Great Southern wineries. This proved to be another great marketing opportunity to strengthen the West Cape Howe and Great Southern brands into this new, emerging market.
Our wines are being enjoyed near and far!
Tony Sassi of Sassi Cucina, Port Douglas
Tony Sassi grew up with the wonderful flavours of the Italian seaside in Abruzzo on the Adriatic coast of Italy. He now translates these into a modern cucina and is renowned for the exquisitely balanced flavours in all his dishes. Food critics have noted that Tony achieves great results by not overworking the fresh ingredient - it's simple and it's 'sassi'.
Tony recently discovered WEST CAPE HOWE wines and immediately saw a fresh, very enjoyable, well-balanced style to compliment his fine dishes.
Very soon Sassi will list our wines and you will be able to taste this delectable partnership for yourself!
