We’re very pleased to be offering our new release of our ‘reserve’ Cabernet Sauvignon.

Named in honour after one of the pioneer workers in the district, ‘King Billy’ worked for the Mitchell family on the original Langton property, back in the early 1900’s. In planning for this reserve wine, Cabernet Sauvignon was the obvious choice. It’s now over 50 years since the first vines were planted in the Mt Barker district and Cabernet has proven to be the king of the reds. This is our third release of King Billy, a wine many years in the making. In 2013, our best parcels of Cabernet from the most mature vines from the Windy Hill vineyard, located just across from the winery, were selected as being suitable for our reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Once it went to barrel, there was a further assessment with four of the very best barriques being designated as ‘King Billy’ material. It matured for 14 months in French oak (two x new barriques; two x once used) before bottling in December 2014. It was then allowed to mature in bottle for nearly 4 years before being labelled for release. Extended maturation in bottle rather than in oak has ensured that this wine has retained its vibrant fruit while developing its secondary characters and still has further capacity for cellaring.
