West Cape Howe scores three wines in James Halliday's TOP 100!
James Halliday has selected three West Cape Howe wines in his TOP 100 list:
96 Points - 2014 West Cape Howe Riesling - Mount Barker
'Everything about the wine screams quality and showcases the ability of Great Southern to produce superb riesling when made with the skill evident here; intense citrus blossom aromas and flavours, the acidity a strand of stainless steel wire running through it and providing the structure for the endless finish. Drink to 2029.'
94 Points - 2013 West Cape Howe Cabernet Merlot - Great Southern
'A fragrant bouquet of blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit leads onto a supple, medium-bodied palate, awash with delicious cassis tempered by cedary French oak, together with fine-grained tannins. Some seriously good fruit has been used to make this wine. Drink to 2025.'
96 Points - 2012 West Cape Howe 'Book Ends' Cabernet Sauvignon - Mount Barker
Gavin Berry, Winemaker and Managing Director said, 'We are thrilled to have these wines included in James Halliday's TOP 100. The Great Southern is often underrated as a wine region and to have this endorsement from James Halliday is fantastic. The fact that different wines achieved such good ratings reinforces the depth of our region; that we can produce world class, delicate rieslings through to richly flavoured cabernet with distinctive regional characteristics, and offer them at great value for money. I can't see myself being anywhere else!'

2013 West Cape Howe Tempranillo Notches up its Second Trophy!
Out of a blind tasting of approximately 200 wines, the selection of the West
Cape Howe 2013 Tempranillo for this Trophy illustrates what a stunning example
it is of this Spanish variety that is being produced so successfully in
The 2013 West Cape Howe Tempranillo also received a Trophy at the Perth
Royal Wine Show 2014 for BEST DRY RED VARIETAL in Class 55.
Managing Director and Winemaker Gavin Berry said, 'We're thrilled with the success of
our 2013 Tempranillo; of all the 'alternative' varieties we see come through
the winery, it's almost always the stand out. It's a wine we love making as we
get to play around with the excellent parcels of fruit from both the Perth
Hills and Frankland, both areas clearly suited to this variety. It's also
a very food friendly wine and it's a style we love to drink! My congratulations
go to the guys in the vineyards and the team here at the winery."
